Pop-up! Chaconne in the Stairwell at The Drawing Center - SOHO, NYC

  • The Drawing Center 35 Wooster Street New York, NY, 10013 United States

PERFORMANCE Times: 7:30 and 8PM

In response to Abdelkader Benchamma's Representation of Dark Matter, violinist Pauline Kim Harris will give a pop-up performance of J. S. Bach's monumental Chaconne, breathing music into the "astronomical vortex" of the large-scale drawing in The Drawing Center's stairwell as a closing ceremony for the year-long installation. The happening will be recorded by Holly Sass and filmed by Matilda Sakamoto.

Audience is asked to attend wearing black and white attire, and will be invited to gather in the Stairwell for the back-to-back, ten-minute performances.

Violinist Pauline Kim Harris is renowned for her groundbreaking classical and avant-garde performances. A Grammy-nominated artist, Pauline has recently released a solo recording of John Zorn’s Passagen for Solo Violin on Tzadik Records as well as a full-length album of music by Eric Lyon, entitled The Book of Strange Positions, with her violin duo String Noise on Northern Spy Records.
